First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study tested a new way to treat low-risk prostate cancer using a microwave probe inserted through the rectum. The goal was to see if it could safely destroy the main tumor while avoiding more invasive treatments. Only 11 patients took part, and the main measure was whether the tumor was completely killed on MRI scans.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
microwave ablation device
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a less invasive option for low-risk prostate cancer, potentially reducing side effects like erectile dysfunction.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study (11 people) with no control group, so results may not apply broadly. The procedure may not fully destroy the tumor or could cause side effects.
