New DNA blood test could slash diagnosis time for deadly heart infection
NCT ID NCT06309680
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 29 times
Summary
This study looks at a new blood test that uses DNA sequencing to quickly identify the bacteria causing infective endocarditis, a serious heart infection. Current methods take up to 5 days to grow bacteria from blood samples, delaying the right treatment. The new test aims to give results faster, helping doctors choose the most effective antibiotics sooner. About 200 adults with suspected endocarditis will have their blood tested with both methods to see how accurate the new DNA test is.
