Scientists revisit 18 people after 16 years to solve a metabolic mystery

NCT ID NCT06340321

Summary

This study aims to understand if the body's ability to efficiently switch between using sugars and fats for energy (called metabolic flexibility) influences long-term health risks like obesity and metabolic syndrome. Researchers are recalling 18 healthy participants from a study done 16 years ago for a single follow-up visit to measure their current health. By comparing new health data with old measurements, they hope to see if a person's metabolic flexibility back then predicted changes in their weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar control today.
