Fatty acid study aims to unlock secrets of rare metabolic disease
NCT ID NCT06623032
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how medium-chain and long-chain fatty acids affect metabolism in people with Medium-Chain Acyl-CoA Dehydrogenase Deficiency (MCADD) and healthy individuals. Researchers will measure ketone bodies, resting metabolic rate, and other factors after participants consume these fats. The goal is to better understand the body's response in MCADD, which could lead to improved dietary advice.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Medium-Chain Fatty Acid (MCFA) and Long-Chain Fatty Acid (LCFA)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could provide insights into how different fats affect people with MCADD, potentially guiding dietary recommendations to manage the condition better.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply broadly. It focuses on short-term metabolic effects, not long-term outcomes or treatments.

- Phase

Not a phased trial
Phase numbers describe drug development. The registry uses this when they do not apply, as it does for trials of devices, procedures or behaviour changes, and for observational studies.
