Sleep hormone may ward off Post-Surgery brain fog in seniors
NCT ID NCT03785158
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 31 times
Summary
This study tested whether giving melatonin, a natural sleep hormone, could prevent delirium (sudden confusion) in older adults after major surgery. About 88 patients aged 65 and older took either melatonin or a placebo before and after their operation. The main goal was to see if a larger study is possible, not yet to prove melatonin works. Results will help design future research.
