NCT ID NCT03785158

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study looked at whether giving melatonin, a natural sleep hormone, can prevent delirium (sudden confusion) in older adults after major surgery. Delirium is common in elderly patients and can lead to longer hospital stays and other problems. The study was a small pilot with 88 patients to see if a larger trial is possible, and it measured how many patients could be recruited and how well they took the medication.
