Diabetes drug cream may offer safer melasma solution

NCT ID NCT07485777

First seen Apr 07, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tests whether a cream made from the diabetes drug metformin can treat facial melasma as well as the standard Kligman's regimen, but with fewer side effects like redness or burning. About 82 women aged 35-55 with melasma will use either the metformin cream or Kligman's regimen for 8 weeks, along with sunscreen. Researchers will measure changes in skin pigmentation and track any adverse reactions to see which treatment is better tolerated.
