Diabetes drug cream may offer safer melasma solution

NCT ID NCT07485777

First seen Apr 07, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a cream made from 30% metformin, a common diabetes drug, can treat facial melasma better and with fewer side effects than the standard Kligman's regimen. About 82 women aged 35-55 with melasma will use either the metformin cream or Kligman's regimen plus sunscreen for 8 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in skin pigmentation and track side effects like redness or burning.
