Massage and exercise combo shows promise for stroke recovery
NCT ID NCT06922149
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This small pilot study tested whether combining functional massage with eccentric (lengthening) exercises could reduce muscle stiffness and improve leg movement in people who had a stroke at least 6 months earlier. Eight adults with chronic stroke received both the combined treatment and exercise alone at different times. The goal was to see if the combo approach better eased spasticity and boosted mobility, balance, and quality of life. Risks were minimal, and participants could use assistive devices for safety.
