Hidden mineral crisis: gut patients at risk for magnesium deficiency

NCT ID NCT07338565

First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at how often people with Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, an ileostomy, or bile acid diarrhea have low magnesium levels. Magnesium is important for muscles, nerves, and heart health, but standard blood tests may miss a deficiency. Researchers will compare different ways to measure magnesium, including blood cells and muscle tissue, to find the best method. About 120 adults will take part, including healthy volunteers for comparison.
