Gentle scans aim to predict preemie lung trouble

NCT ID NCT07265583

Summary

This study is testing two non-invasive scanning methods to see if they can predict which premature babies will develop a serious, chronic lung condition called bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Researchers will enroll 104 very small, premature infants in Italy and use special chest scans (electrical impedance tomography and lung ultrasound) during their first weeks of life. The goal is to see if these scans can spot early signs of uneven lung inflation, which might help doctors intervene sooner to protect the babies' lungs.
