New CT scan technique could improve blood clot detection in lungs

NCT ID NCT03579849

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tested a new CT scan method to see if it can find blood clots in the lungs as well as the standard SPECT scan. The new method uses a single CT scan to create a map of blood flow, potentially giving doctors both the clot location and its effect on lung function. 30 adults with confirmed clots took part. The goal was to see if this new technique is accurate enough to replace the current two-step approach.
