Blood test may spot lung cancer earlier in High-Risk smokers
NCT ID NCT02500693
First seen Apr 08, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study looked at whether a simple blood test that finds stray cancer cells (circulating tumor cells) can help detect lung cancer earlier in people at very high risk—smokers over 55 with COPD. About 600 participants had both the blood test and a low-dose CT scan once a year for three years. The goal was to see if the blood test could catch cancers that CT scans might miss or wrongly flag, potentially reducing unnecessary follow-ups and improving early diagnosis.
