Blood test may spot lung cancer before scans in High-Risk smokers
NCT ID NCT02500693
First seen Apr 08, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study looked at whether a simple blood test for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) can help detect lung cancer earlier in people at very high risk—smokers and ex-smokers over 55 with COPD. Researchers combined the blood test with low-dose CT scans over three yearly screenings. The goal was to see if CTCs could reduce false alarms and catch cancers sooner than scans alone.
