Spleen surgery may protect kidneys in liver patients, study hopes to find out

Summary

This study follows 30 adults with liver cirrhosis and a history of bleeding from high blood pressure in the liver. They will have laparoscopic spleen removal and a vein-tying surgery. Researchers will measure kidney function before and for 2 years after surgery to see if the procedure helps or harms the kidneys. The goal is to learn how to better protect kidney health in these patients.
