New study: simple blood test may spot heart risk in kidney patients

NCT ID NCT07141628

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study will follow 300 people with stage 4 chronic kidney disease (not yet on dialysis) for 18 months. Researchers want to see if high levels of lipoprotein(a) — a type of fat in the blood — are linked to future heart attacks, strokes, or the need for dialysis. The goal is to better understand heart risks in this group, not to test a new treatment.
