Sound waves aimed at brain may ease tough schizophrenia symptoms
NCT ID NCT05259306
First seen Apr 07, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This small pilot study tests whether a non-invasive technique called low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) can safely target a deep brain area (the thalamus) in people with treatment-resistant schizophrenia. Only 3 participants were planned, and the main goal was to see if the procedure is feasible and tolerable. Researchers also tracked changes in psychiatric symptoms, but the study was suspended, so results are limited.
