Common drug tested to shield Babies' lungs after critical heart operations

Summary
This study aims to see if giving the medication lidocaine during and after heart surgery can reduce lung injury in infants. It will involve 320 babies under 12 months old who are having surgery to fix a congenital heart defect. Infants will be randomly assigned to receive either lidocaine or a placebo (saltwater) during their operation to compare outcomes.
