Parkinson's drug tested to stop diabetes from stealing sight

NCT ID NCT07444892

Summary

This study tested whether levodopa, a medication used for Parkinson's disease, could help protect the eyes of people with diabetes before visible damage occurs. 230 participants, including veterans, took either a placebo or different doses of levodopa for six months. Researchers used specialized eye tests to see if the drug could restore normal electrical activity in the retina and slow early diabetic eye disease.
