Summary

This study tests whether resistance exercise and extra protein can help preserve muscle mass in people starting weight-loss drugs like semaglutide or tirzepatide. 232 adults with obesity will be randomly assigned to one of four groups: control, extra protein, exercise, or both. The goal is to see if these strategies prevent muscle loss and improve physical function over 6 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
resistance exercise and increased protein intake
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show a way to prevent muscle loss while taking weight-loss drugs, leading to healthier weight loss.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage study without a drug approval phase. Results may not apply to everyone, and sticking to exercise and diet changes can be hard.
