Enzyme supplement may help tiny preemies digest milk
NCT ID NCT07494123
First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding lactase enzyme to milk feedings helps preterm infants (born before 34 weeks) digest lactose and tolerate feedings better. 124 babies in Egypt received either lactase-supplemented or standard feedings for two weeks. Researchers measured weight gain, signs of feeding intolerance (like bloating or vomiting), and stool markers to see if the enzyme improved digestion and growth.
