Can a simple syrup save children from severe infections?
NCT ID NCT06426147
Summary
This study aims to see if a nutritional supplement called L-Citrulline can help young children (1 month to under 5 years old) who are hospitalized with serious infections and are at high risk for complications. First, a quick finger-prick test will identify children at higher risk. Then, about 888 of these high-risk children will receive either the L-Citrulline syrup or a placebo (a dummy syrup) twice daily for 28 days. Researchers will compare the two groups to see if the supplement reduces serious problems like death, organ failure, or readmission to the hospital within 28 days.
