New metal knee could last longer without cement

NCT ID NCT02578446

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looks at two types of knee replacements: one that uses bone cement and one that uses a special porous metal to help the bone grow into the implant. The goal is to see if the new metal implant stays in place as well as the cemented one, which could mean fewer problems and less need for repeat surgery. About 70 people having knee replacement will take part and be followed for up to 10 years.
