New tool could help veterans recover faster after knee surgery

NCT ID NCT05288803

First seen Apr 03, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tests a new clinical decision support tool that helps physical therapists tailor rehabilitation after total knee replacement. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, the tool uses each patient's recovery data to personalize therapy. The goal is to improve knee function and reduce the number of therapy visits needed. The study will enroll 200 veterans across multiple VA clinics.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Clinical decision support tool (Knee Recovery Tool)

What this could lead to

If it works, this tool could help veterans recover faster and more fully after knee replacement, while using fewer physical therapy visits.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small study (200 participants) testing a tool, not a drug or surgery. The tool may not improve outcomes for everyone, and results may not apply outside the VA system.
