Knee replacement showdown: plastic vs. metal components tested for stability
NCT ID NCT04358575
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 38 times
Summary
This study looked at 60 people with arthritis who needed a total knee replacement. It compared two different designs of the tibial (shin bone) component: one made entirely of a special plastic and one with a metal backing. The goal was to see which design moved less inside the bone over two years, using a precise X-ray technique called RSA. The results help doctors understand which type might last longer.
