New MRI scan may spot aggressive kidney cancers without needle

NCT ID NCT04258462

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tests a new type of MRI that uses a natural substance (hyperpolarized 13C pyruvate) to see how active a kidney tumor is. The goal is to find out if this scan can tell the difference between harmless tumors, slow-growing cancers, and aggressive cancers without needing a biopsy. About 54 people with kidney tumors will get this scan, and doctors will compare the results to the tumor tissue after surgery.
