Could a cheap allergy drug ease chronic stomach pain in kids?
NCT ID NCT02484248
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tests whether ketotifen, a medicine that stabilizes certain immune cells, can reduce stomach pain in children aged 8-17 with functional dyspepsia (long-term stomach discomfort) and high levels of eosinophils (a type of white blood cell) in their gut. About 40 children who haven't fully responded to standard acid-reducing treatments will receive either ketotifen or a placebo, then switch. The goal is to see if ketotifen can improve symptoms and quality of life, potentially offering a cheaper and simpler treatment option.
