Jazz and mindfulness: a new beat for chronic pain relief?
NCT ID NCT05979012
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether daily listening to jazz music combined with mindfulness can reduce chronic pain and anxiety. About 90 adults with chronic pain and moderate-to-severe anxiety will listen to jazz recordings daily for 4 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in pain intensity and how pain affects daily life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Jazz music listening and mindfulness
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a non-addictive, drug-free way to help manage chronic pain and anxiety at home.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage behavioral study with no blinding or control group, so results may be due to placebo or attention effects. It also only includes people with anxiety, so it may not apply to all chronic pain patients.
