Shockwave therapy may improve heart artery treatment

NCT ID NCT07340294

First seen Jan 15, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a special shockwave treatment (intravascular lithotripsy) to standard artery-cleaning procedures helps people with moderate to severe calcium buildup in their heart arteries. About 1,096 adults with coronary artery disease will be split into two groups: one gets standard treatment alone, the other gets standard treatment plus the shockwave. Researchers will track heart-related events like death, heart attack, or need for repeat procedures over 24 months to see which approach works better.
