First seen Mar 24, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study tested whether a technique called ischemic preconditioning, which is used in organ transplants, could help reduce fat tissue damage after breast reconstruction surgery in women who had a mastectomy for breast cancer. The approach involves short cycles of blood flow interruption before the main surgery to prepare the tissue. The study enrolled 18 women and measured whether this technique prevented painful fat necrosis in the reconstructed breast.
