New study aims to ease bowel troubles after rectal cancer surgery

NCT ID NCT06936774

First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether an intensified follow-up program can improve bowel control and quality of life for people who have had rectal cancer surgery. About 140 adults who have a temporary ileostomy after surgery will be split into two groups: one gets extra visits, pelvic floor training, and specialist care for bowel or urinary issues, while the other gets standard care. The goal is to see if the extra support reduces symptoms like leakage and urgency after 13 months.
