Double-Duty drugs: new hope for slowing deadly lung disease?

NCT ID NCT03939520

Summary

This study looked for a better way to treat people with a serious, progressive lung scarring disease (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis or IPF) when their current single drug stops working well. Researchers tested if combining the two approved drugs (pirfenidone and nintedanib) was more effective and safe than simply switching to the other single drug. The trial involved 279 adults whose lung function was declining despite already being on one of the standard medications.
