Tailored ventilation strategy fails to prove benefit in Early-Stopped lung trial

NCT ID NCT04012073

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tested whether adjusting a breathing machine's pressure based on each patient's lung volume could improve outcomes for adults with moderate-to-severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The trial planned to enroll many patients but was stopped early after only 18 participants. The approach aimed to reduce inflammation, time on a ventilator, and death in the ICU, but the early termination means no firm conclusions can be drawn.
