Can a simple leg pump prevent deadly clots in bleeding-risk ICU patients?

NCT ID NCT00740844

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated Jun 09, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study looked at whether using intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) devices on the legs, along with elastic stockings, reduces blood clots better than stockings alone in intensive care patients who are at high risk of bleeding. About 408 adults in ICUs with conditions like severe anemia or clotting disorders took part. The main goal was to check for clots in the legs or lungs around day 6 of treatment.
