NCT ID NCT04994977
First seen Mar 30, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This early-stage trial tested giving chemotherapy directly into the arteries of the brain for people with rare choroid plexus tumors. The goal was to shrink the tumor before a second surgery. Only one person enrolled, and the study was stopped early, so we don't know if this approach is safe or effective.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Melphalan, carboplatin, and topotecan (chemotherapy drugs)
What this could lead to
If it works, this approach could shrink rare brain tumors before surgery, making them easier to remove and potentially improving outcomes.
What could go wrong
This was a very early phase 1 trial with only 1 participant and was terminated early, so we have very little data. The chemotherapy drugs can cause serious side effects.
