Baby steps to beat diabetes: early lifestyle changes may shield kids from type 1

NCT ID NCT06670625

First seen Apr 17, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tests whether intensive diet and activity advice given to parents of infants at high genetic risk for type 1 diabetes can protect the cells that make insulin. About 1,244 babies will be enrolled by 4 months old and followed until age 6. Half the families get extra counseling on healthy eating and physical activity; the other half follow standard care. The goal is to see if these early lifestyle changes reduce weight gain and the development of diabetes-related autoantibodies.
