Hidden infection may drive dangerous brain bleed recurrence in elderly

NCT ID NCT07556991

First seen May 10, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a low-grade infection in the brain's lining causes chronic subdural hematoma (a type of brain bleed common in older adults) to come back after surgery. About 164 adults who need surgery for this condition will be enrolled. Half will receive antibiotics after surgery to see if it lowers the chance of needing another operation within six months. The goal is to understand if treating an infection can prevent recurrence.
