Rural veterans may soon get prosthetic fittings without long drives

NCT ID NCT05884203

First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tests whether a helper (like a family member) can use a simple digital scanner to capture the shape of a veteran's leg for a new prosthetic socket. The goal is to see if this remote method works as well as the traditional in-person casting by a prosthetist. 25 veterans with below-knee amputations will participate, comparing comfort and fit between the two methods. If successful, this could reduce travel burden for rural veterans.
