New study aims to stop deadly bleeding in liver disease patients

NCT ID NCT07502729

First seen Apr 01, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looks at two treatments—endoscopy and a procedure called TIPS—to prevent repeat bleeding in people with high blood pressure in the liver (portal hypertension) that causes swollen veins in the stomach or esophagus. Over 1,000 adults who have had a bleeding episode will be followed for a year to see which treatment works better. The goal is to find the best way to manage this serious condition and improve patient outcomes.
