Scientists probe immune System's role in deadly pneumonia complications
NCT ID NCT03379207
Summary
This study aimed to understand how certain immune cells behave in people with severe community-acquired pneumonia, especially when it worsens into a life-threatening condition called ARDS. Researchers compared blood and lung fluid samples from about 150 ICU patients with pneumonia to 50 ICU patients without pneumonia at several time points. The goal was to learn how the immune response changes over time to inform future treatments, not to test a new therapy.
