ICU or not? new study questions routine intensive care after head and neck reconstructive surgery

NCT ID NCT07295548

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study looks at whether patients who have head and neck reconstructive surgery with a free flap (tissue moved from another body part) can recover just as well on a regular hospital ward as in the intensive care unit (ICU). The researchers will compare minor and major complications and length of hospital stay between the two groups. The goal is to see if ICU admission is always necessary, which could reduce healthcare costs and free up ICU beds.
