Can Mountain-Like workouts help fatty liver? small trial aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07073326
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Aug 18, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests whether aerobic exercise in simulated altitude (normobaric hypoxia) can improve body composition and metabolism in people with MASLD, a type of fatty liver disease. Twenty sedentary adults with MASLD will walk on a treadmill for 8 weeks, either in mild altitude or normal air. Researchers will measure changes in body mass, fat percentage, and fitness.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- aerobic exercise in simulated altitude (normobaric hypoxia)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a new exercise approach to help manage MASLD and improve metabolic health.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, early study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply widely. The intervention is mild and may not produce meaningful changes.
