NIH launches study to unravel immune secrets of parasitic worm infections

NCT ID NCT00001230

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looks at how people's immune systems react to filarial infections—caused by parasitic worms spread by mosquitoes—and how they respond to standard treatments. Researchers will observe up to 500 participants aged 3 to 100 who have or may have these infections. The goal is to learn why some people get sicker than others and what markers show treatment is working, using routine medical tests and extra blood draws.
