Hormone swings linked to suicide risk in women

NCT ID NCT04112368

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looked at 124 women with recent suicidal thoughts to understand how natural hormone changes during the menstrual cycle might increase suicide risk. Researchers used a two-week hormone-stabilizing treatment to see if it could reduce suicidal thinking around the time of menstruation. The goal was to gather information to help develop better treatments for women who experience monthly worsening of suicide risk.
