Medical honey tested to stop hearing aid skin breakdown

NCT ID NCT03929224

Summary

This study tested whether applying medical-grade honey after surgery could prevent skin irritation and breakdown around bone-anchored hearing aids better than the standard antibiotic ointment. Seventeen adult patients having the hearing aid implanted were randomly assigned to use either honey or the standard ointment on their surgical site for two weeks after their procedure. Doctors then compared skin healing, pain levels, and need for antibiotics between the two groups over six months.
