Medical honey tested to stop hearing aid skin breakdown

NCT ID NCT03929224

Summary

This study tested whether applying medical-grade honey after bone-anchored hearing aid surgery prevents skin irritation better than the standard antibiotic ointment. Seventeen adult patients having the implant surgery were randomly assigned to use either honey or ointment on their surgical site for two weeks. Researchers then monitored skin reactions, pain levels, and need for antibiotics over six months to see which treatment worked better.
