First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study looked at whether a 12-week home exercise program could help people aged 45 and older with advanced chronic kidney disease (stages 4-5) who are not on dialysis. The program included strength and aerobic exercises done 3-4 times a week. Researchers measured changes in muscle loss risk, physical function, depression, fatigue, sleep, and quality of life. The goal is to find a safe, accessible way to improve daily life for these patients.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
home-based exercise program
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost way for kidney disease patients to improve muscle strength, energy, sleep, and overall well-being without needing to go to a clinic.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 26 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Exercise may be hard for some patients to stick with, and the study does not test long-term effects.
