Can a home exercise program ease COPD symptoms?
NCT ID NCT06954948
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a home-based pulmonary rehabilitation programme could help people with COPD in areas with limited healthcare resources. 128 participants either received the 8-week home programme (exercise, education, and phone support) or standard care. Researchers measured changes in flare-ups, walking distance, and breathlessness to see if the home programme improved outcomes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- pulmonary rehabilitation (exercise and education programme)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a practical, low-cost way for people with COPD to manage breathlessness and improve daily life at home.
- What could go wrong
- This is a completed trial with 128 participants, but results are not yet widely confirmed. The programme requires motivation and may not work for everyone with severe COPD.
