New HIV prevention strategy for pregnant women shows promise in pilot study
NCT ID NCT02738502
First seen Apr 30, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study tested whether pregnant women with well-controlled HIV could switch to a simpler drug regimen (darunavir/ritonavir alone) to prevent passing the virus to their babies. 91 women who were already on HIV treatment and had undetectable virus levels for at least a year took part. The goal was to see if this approach could keep the virus suppressed near delivery, reducing the risk of mother-to-child transmission.
