Could a stripped-down HIV drug regimen keep babies virus-free?

NCT ID NCT02738502

First seen Apr 30, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looked at whether pregnant women with well-controlled HIV could switch to a simpler drug regimen (darunavir/ritonavir alone) to prevent passing the virus to their babies. About 91 women joined the study, and the main goal was to see if their viral load stayed very low near delivery. The babies also received a short course of nevirapine for extra protection. The approach aims to reduce the number of HIV drugs used during pregnancy while still keeping both mother and baby healthy.
